He played basketball at Edgewood College from 1991-95 and led the Eagles to 4 LMC Championships, 2 LMC Tournament Championships, and 2 National Tournament appearances. When he completed his career, he ranked 1st in steals with 204 and assists with 651. He was 7th all-time in rebounds at the conclusion of his career. He ranked in the top ten in assists, steals, and rebounds. 20th all-time in scoring. His 14 assists were the second highest single game record of all-time. He was All-Lake Michigan Conference in 1993 and 1995. All-District (NAIA) in 1995. National Association of Basketball Coaches All-American in 1994 and 1995. Matt was the only player in Eagle history to win the team Defensive Player of the Year award four times. In 1995, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and mathematics.
