MADISON, Wis. - Edgewood College got 12 kills apiece from Kristin Manske and Kim Paskey, but still couldn't manage to shake off their current losing streak, falling at home to Rockford College 3-1. The Regents claimed the match by scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-23.
Edgewood College has been hampered by slow starts in their recent matches, but held an 18-16 lead in the first set. Rockford College tied the set at 20 and forced a side out when Haley Emford served out the final four points of the set thanks in part to three Edgewood College attack errors.
The Eagles (3-13, 0-3 NAC) returned the favor in the second set scoring the six of the final eight points to break a 19-19 tie. Paskey had a kill in the decisive run which ended with Ashley Averkamp and Abbi Schultz stuffing Rockford's Amelia King for the win.
Rockford College (4-9, 2-1 NAC) controlled much of the third set, but the Eagles seemed poised to tie the match up at two sets apiece when they ran out to a 17-12 lead in the fourth stanza. The Regents eventually tied the set and pushed the score to 23-23 with the Eagles serving. However Rockford's Melissa Swaziek erased all hope for a fifth set, recording two straight kills to end the match.
Averkamp was the most accurate hitter of the night, recording a .357 attack percentage with seven kills. Fellow freshmen Aryn Wellnitz and Schultz each posted seven kills as well. Sophomore Kim Lueck had a team-high 17 digs and Emily Monson served up three aces.
The Eagles will stay home for the weekend, hosting their second triangular of the season. Edgewood College will face Finlandia University (Mich.) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, before playing Clarke College (Iowa) in the 3:00 p.m. finale. Finalndia and Clarke will meet at 1:00 p.m.
