The Eagles managed to hit over .100 in just one of the three sets against the Knights in the first match of the day. They turned in a mark of .194 in the third set but failed to reach the .090 mark in the first two. Wartburg, meanwhile, hit at least .216 in all three sets, including a mark of .300 in the second set.Â
Jordan Winkler led the Eagles offensively, hitting .423 with 14 kills. Her .423 attack percentage is her best of the season and marks the second time this year she reached .400, as she hit .400 with with 14 kills on Sept. 12 against Elmhurst. Freshman
Kaelyn Kessel was the only other Eagles player to hit over.100 by turning in an attack percentage of .214 with five kills. Wartburg's Bailey Wilson, a senior middle hitter from West Des Moines, Iowa, hit .529 for the Knights and was the lone player to reach 10 kills. Wartburg improved to 13-2 with the win.
The Eagles started strong in their first two sets against No. 22 Loras College but ultimately failed to get the win over a ranked opponent for the first time since August of last season. Edgewood College started by hitting .208 in the first set and held a large lead at one point in the match, but Coe College's trio of Meghan McClimon, Rachel Schaefer and Rachel Bosworth proved to be too much for the Eagles' defense. The three players combined for 38 of the team's 60 kills on the night and was a big reason behind their comeback in the first set.
The Eagles battled back to win a close one in set two by a score of 25-23 despite hitting .128 to Coe College's .333. Winkler again led the Eagles with 12 kills, and her play combined with
Carley Reuter—who finished with eight kills—helped the Eagles close out a tight set. It would be all Coe College after that point, as the Eagles fell behind quickly in the final two sets and failed to mount comebacks.
Edgewood College will continue action in the NACC-IIAC Crossover Challenge Saturday morning at 9 am with host school Loras College. The Eagles' match with the Duhawks—who enter with an overall record of 8-10—is set to begin at 9 am. The Eagles will wrap up the tournament with a 1 pm match against Luther College.Â
