Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE, Wis. – For the second straight day, the Edgewood College softball team opened the afternoon with a victory but fell in the following game. The Eagles earned a 6-3 win at MSOE but was shutout 4-0 in game two.
MSOE (11-9, 3-5 NACC) grabbed an early lead as they picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning, The Eagles came right back, however, as the first six batters in the second inning all reached. Katie Landon and Taylor McLean brought in the first two runs with RBI singles before Kylie Clark drew a walk to score another. Rachel DeJongh capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to pull the Eagles ahead 4-1.
The Raiders tallied another in the third on a pair of hits, but Edgewood College (10-9, 2-4 NACC) again had an answer. Carlene DeCoster singled in McLean and Jamie Spangler took home on a double steal. MSOE had runners on the corners in the fifth with just one out but Dylan Bahrke threw out the runner at second. The Raiders scored on the play but Tiffani Pierce and Alexis Unser combined for a perfect relay throw to third to gun down the next batter who tried to stretch a double into a triple.
DeJongh pitched a clean sixth and seventh to finish her seventh complete game of the year and earn her seventh victory. Dylan Bahrke, Alyssa Schulting, and Landon each went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Edgewood College had their chances to score in game two, but left a total of six runners on base in the first five innings. Meanwhile, MSOE took advantage of their opportunities and cashed in a run in the second inning. The Raiders began the fifth with back-to-back hits and plated three runs on four total hits in the inning before Karlie Klossner got Callie Wightman to fly out and end the rally.
The Eagles still had two more innings to try and cut into the 4-0 deficit, but the Raiders' Sara McConnell sat down Edgewood College 1-2-3 in both the sixth and seventh.
With a hit in the fifth inning, Clark extended her hitting streak to seven games. Jackie Diesch's 17-game reached base safely streak ended in game two but goes in the books as the second longest in school history behind Jennifer Stephens' 20-game streak in 2008.
The Eagles will be back on the field on Wednesday as they head to Rockford, Illinois to face the Regents. The weekday doubleheader is set to start at 3:00 pm from the Smith Athletic Field.
