Eagles extend win streak to five

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADISON, Wis. – September shows no signs of cooling down for the Edgewood College volleyball team. The Eagles ran their winning streak to five straight matches, the last four of which won in three-set sweeps, with a pair of victories on the first night of the UW-Platteville Invitational. The Eagles blanked Midwest Conference foes Grinnell College and St. Norbert College by scores of 3-0.

In the opening match, Edgewood College jumped all over Grinnell College (0-6) winning each of the first two sets by scores of 25-15. Mixing up his lineup in the third set, head coach Paul Schlomer's squad pulled out a narrow 26-24 third set to win the match. Freshman Carley Reuter led the Eagles with 10 kills and hit .318 for the match. Jessica Martin added six kills against only one error, while Kaitlyn Rabel also posted six kills. Both Samantha Himmelspach with 12 and Macalah Finstad with 10 recorded double digits in digs. Senior setter Lindsey Swansby had 27 assists and a pair of service aces.

In St. Norbert College (1-4), the second match featured an opponent who had given the Eagles two of their nine total losses last season. This season's match would be much different. Edgewood College (7-1) claimed the opening set 25-22 and cruised through the last two sets 25-17 and 25-16. Martin led all players in the match with 12 kills, while Jordan Winkler had 10 kills and 12 digs for a double-double. Himmelspach totaled 16 digs, while Rachel Tesch scored three aces. Swansby had 29 assists and 13 digs.

Edgewood College has now won five straight matches and 14 consecutive sets dating back to their signature victory over fifth-ranked Christopher Newport on August 31. The Eagles will complete the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday with matches against Carroll University and Millikin University.
