Eagles drop a pair at NACC-IIAC Challenge

Jordan Winkler
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – For the first time this season, the Edgewood College women's volleyball team has fallen into unfamiliar territory, a losing streak. The Eagles fell to Wartburg College 3-1 before being swept by Coe College 3-0 at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Challenge.

Wartburg College, much stronger than their 9-6 record, put together a strong performance in the first set. The Knights racked up 15 kills with an attack percentage of .306 to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Edgewood College (13-5) had just two attack errors in the second and was right back in the mix with a 25-20 victory. However, the Eagles could not keep up the errorless play, and hit just .051 in the third and .028 in the fourth set to drop a 3-1 decision to Wartburg.

Edgewood College caught Coe College (17-2) at the wrong time in their schedule as the Eagles could not halt the Kohawks' 16 game winning streak. Coe hit .206 for the match, tallying 47 total kills compared the just 29 for the Eagles. The Kohawks also had a powerful presence at the net as they racked up nine blocks, thanks to Erin Dalke' two solo and four assisted stuffs. The sweep handed Edgewood College their first 3-0 loss this season.

Jordan Winkler led the Eagles with 15 kills and 28 digs in the two matches. Swansby had 43 assist to go along with 21 digs. Sam Himmelspach and Rachel Tesch also topped 20 digs on the day with 26 and 23, respectively. The Eagles hit just .123 as a team in the two matches combined. With her five kills in the first match, Jessica Martin reached 1,000 career kills, becoming just the seventh Eagle in history to do so.

The Eagles will continue play at the Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells tomorrow with more IIAC opponents. Edgewood College will face the University of Dubuque and Loras College beginning at 10:00 a.m.
