Box Score RIPON, Wis. – Only 17 NCAA coaches in history have ever reached 500 wins. After Sunday,
Tim Alexander will be added to the prestigious group. With a 3-1 comeback victory over Ripon College, the Edgewood College women's soccer team won their third straight match, giving head coach Alexander his 500th combined men's and women's victory.
For the first time in three games, the Eagles found themselves staring at a deficit. Ripon College (3-3) forward Brandi Peltier pierced through Edgewood College's defense to score her sixth goal of the season, which is tied for seventh in the nation. Despite holding 6-3 advantage in the shot column before halftime, the Eagles could not tie it up and headed to the locker room down a score.
Second half scoring has not been a problem for Edgewood College (2-3), so despite being down 1-0, the Eagles were not deterred. After five attempts were saved by Ripon's Sidney Blodgett, Edgewood College found the equalizer in the 70th minute as Jennifer Dailey buried her fourth goal of the season in the back of the net. Just a few minutes later, Emily Skaer lined up the Eagles' third corner kick of the half and found Brianna Franken who pushed in the go-ahead score.
In the 85th minute, Peltier had a shot on goal for the tie, but Eagles' Tori Fortney grabbed the save to preserve the 2-1 lead. With time winding down, it looked as though Edgewood College would take the victory by a goal, but Jenna Mineau took a pass from Megan Schroeder and added her first score of the year to make the final 3-1 and complete the comeback.
Coach Alexander began the season just five victories away from the milestone. Both the men's and women's teams began the year 0-2, but the Eagles' third straight victory (combined with a pair of men's wins) pushed Alexander into the 500-win club.
Edgewood College will look for their fourth straight as they face high-scoring St. Norbert College this Wednesday. The Eagles will head to Schneider Stadium in DePere for the 5:00 p.m. contest. Live video will be provided, with a link on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
