LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Edgewood University women's soccer team faced a tough task in No. 15 UW-La Crosse on Wednesday evening. In the battle of two Eagle squads, Edgewood University fell 5-0 in non-conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-La Crosse (10-0-0) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard on Wednesday evening, as Jillian Sawadski scored the first goal in the eighth minute. Sawadski gave the host Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
- Goals from Sera Speltz and Jessica Stewart at the 14:31 and 22:57 mark, respectively, gave UW-La Crosse a 3-0 lead into halftime.
- At the break, Edgewood University (2-6-2) owned zero shots, with UW-La Crosse taking 10 in the opening 45 minutes.
- The Edgewood University attack continued to figure things out in the second half, taking four shots, three on target in the final 45 minutes. Riley Haertle managed two shots, both on target in the second half on Wednesday.
- UW-La Crosse added on two goals in the second half, both coming from Riley Veenendaal.
- Madeline Brown recorded seven saves in 81 minutes in net for Edgewood University. Savannah Sheehan relieved Brown in net, recording one save to close out the contest.
- A trio of goalkeepers represented UW-La Crosse on Wednesday. Kayda Aeby and Jordyn Young combined for three saves on the evening.
- UW-La Crosse saw six assists on the evening, with Amaya Thesing, Kate Heiderscheit, Katelyn Studebaker, Chloe Ackerman, Grace Williams, and Gianna Zamborini each recording an assist at home.
