Eagles blank Bucs for second straight shutout

Megan Schroeder
Box Score BELOIT, Wis. – All cylinders seem to be clicking for the Edgewood College women's soccer team as the Eagles recorded their second straight shutout. Edgewood College outshot Beloit College 26-1 as the Eagles blanked the Buccaneers 3-0 at Strong Complex Field on Friday night.

The Eagles attacked the goal early and often in the first half, registering 10 shots before the break. Despite all of Edgewood College's efforts, Beloit did not surrender a goal. The Buccanner's Alex Spirov grabbed three saves, while the rest of the Eagles' shots were off the mark. In the 39th minute, Beloit's Emma Schroer fired the Buc's only shot of the day, but pushed it wide.

Whatever head coach Tim Alexander said to encourage the team at half worked, because the Eagles came out and netted three goals in a span of 16 minutes. The first Edgewood College score came off the foot of Jennifer Dailey at the 46:43 mark, assisted by Emily Berns. After three more attempts, Megan Schroeder fed Ashley Pandow, who cashed in her first collegiate goal. Edgewood College would not let up, continuing to hound Spirov in goal. In the 62nd minute, Berns connected with Dailey one more time, who buried a shot in the back of the net to give the Eagles a 3-0 cushion. Edgewood College fired six more shots, but the Buccaneers stood their ground and did not give up another goal.

With the two scores, Dailey now leads Edgewood College with three goals and a shot percentage of .600. Berns tallied her team-leading second and third assist of the season after not having a single one a season ago. Pandow's goal and Schroeder's assists were both firsts for the freshmen.

Edgewood College will look to add a third victory to their win column as they head to Ripon on Sunday. The 1:00 p.m. match at Prairie Field will feature live video, with a link available on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
