VERONA, Wis. – Friday was the Edgewood College softball team's season finale at home in Ceniti Park and the Eagles sure left a lasting impression. In a game that lasted just 64 minutes, Edgewood College found seventh inning drama as Tiffani Pierce crossed the plate for the winning run off a Lakeland College error to win 3-2.

With the game knotted at two apiece, Pierce led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single. Alyssa Schulting laid down a textbook sacrifice bunt to advance Pierce to second. Dylan Bahrke then ripped a fly ball to left field which was caught, but was deep enough for Pierce to tag up to third base. Down to their final out, Katie Landon took the first pitch she saw and hit a slow roller up the third base line. The ball was fielded cleanly, but an errant throw by the Muskies' Jenny LaLuzerne allowed the game-winning run to cross.

Despite the win, Edgewood College again struggled at the plate. The Eagles only combined for four base hits, but two of them came in a crucial spot in the fourth inning. Rachel DeJongh led off with a double down the left field line and Jessica Spitzer followed with her sixth home run of the year, a towering shot to center field, putting Edgewood College up 2-0.

DeJongh also earned the start on the rubber, throwing her seventh complete game of the season. Lakeland College had runners aboard in each of the first five innings, but behind strong defense, Edgewood College escaped without allowing a run.

The sixth inning was a different story, as back-to-back doubles scored a run for the Muskies and after a groundout moved pinch runner Elizabeth Zimmerman over to third, the sophomore scored the tying run on a wild pitch by DeJongh. Although Edgewood College allowed the tying run to cross, the Eagles never gave up which set up the dramatic seventh inning.

Spitzer led Edgewood College as she collected two of the Eagles' four hits including the crucial two-run home run in the fourth inning.

Edgewood College moved up a spot in the NAC standings to sixth, but are still fighting for a postseason appearance. The Eagles battle Rockford and Concordia Chicago in doubleheaders this weekend which will determine their fate.
