MARQUETTE, Mich. – With two games before noon, the Edgewood College softball team couldn't quite seem to wake up their bats and dropped both contests. The Eagles only collected seven hits all day as they fell to undefeated Simpson College in the first matchup 6-1 before dropping being shutout 10-0 against Loras College in five innings.

Junior Charlie Leikness put away the first two batters before giving up back-to-back singles and a double which brought in a run. Leikness was able to regain her composure and get out of the inning before too much damage was caused. After the Eagles (2-4) were sat down in order, Simpson was back at the plate. The Storm rallied for two runs on four hits to put Edgewood College in a 2-0 hole. After reaching on an error, Jackie Diesch advanced to third base, but the Eagles couldn't get her across the plate, and were blanked again. Leikness knocked down Simpson (5-0) in order in the third, but again the Eagles couldn't get any offense going.

Karlie Klossner took over on the rubber for the Eagles in the top of the fourth and despite two Edgewood College errors, she was able to keep the Storm scoreless. In the Eagles half of the fourth, Jessica Spitzer finally got Edgewood College's first hit which was followed by a single by Diesch. Katie Landon reached on an error, loading the bases before Spitzer snuck past the plate after another Simpson error, cutting the Eagles' deficit to 3-1. Klossner came out for a strong fifth, getting two groundouts and a popout before the Storm added another in the sixth inning. Edgewood College got a hit in both the fifth and sixth, but couldn't get more than that. In the seventh, Simpson rallied for four hits and piled on two insurance runs while holding the Eagles hitless to take a 6-1 victory.

In Edgewood College's final game at the Finlandia Dome Tournament, the Eagles faced Loras College and pitcher Kellie Klein, who was impressive on the rubber. Loras (1-3) jumped out to an early lead after notching two runs in the first inning while holding the Eagles to only one hit in the bottom half. Already leading 2-0, the Duhawks exploded for seven runs in the second inning behind four hits and two Edgewood College errors.

The Eagles were quieted by Loras' Klein who sat down six straight in the second and third inning while Edgewood College saw the Duhawks add one more run in their half of the third. Spitzer led off the fourth with a single and after a fly out, Landon moved the senior over but got caught trying to stretch her hit into a double. Down 10-0, the Eagles needed to find a way to score a couple runs to extend the game, but a strikeout and two groundouts ended Edgewood College's chances and sent them to a second straight loss.

Diesch and Spitzer combined for five of Edgewood College's seven hits, but could not muster enough offense to propel the Eagles to a win. Landon and Carlene DeCoster also added singles on the day.

Edgewood College will continue their non-conference schedule in Arizona as they head to Tucson to play 10 games in a span of five days. The Eagles first game of the Tucson Invitational is March 10 against Baldwin Wallace University.
