MARQUETTE, Mich. – The second day of the dome tournament was nearly mirrored on Saturday at the Edgewood College softball team fell in the first game, but rebounded back with a win. The Eagles dropped an 8-4 game to UW-Stevens Point, but responded with a 14-1 rout over Mt. Mary College.

The Eagles jumped on the Pointers right from the start, scoring one run on a single from Jaqueline Diesch. Edgewood College added to their lead as Alexis Unser bombed a two-run homer, driving in Dylan Bahrke who singled singled. Already leading 3-0, the Eagles continued to pound out hits as Katie Landon started out the fourth with a single. Tiffani Pierce reached on an error and Alyssa Schulting added her second single, loading the bases. Unser then reached on an error, plating Landon. Just as she did in Edgewood College's (2-2) first game, Charlie Leikness got the start and threw three sold innings before UW-Stevens Point got to her in the fourth. The Pointers were able to get back two runs off two hits to cut their deficit to 4-2.

The Eagles were knocked down in order in the fifth and Rachel DeJongh came into pitch for Leikness. The Pointers (3-1) began the inning with two extra base hits before Edgewood College got an out. Four more consecutive hits chased DeJongh and the Eagles brought in Karlie Klossner to take over on the rubber. An error led to a few more runs by UW-Stevens Point, but before even more damage was done, Klossner got a groundout to end the Pointers rally at six runs, putting Edgewood College in an 8-4 hole. The Eagles failed to rally in the sixth and seventh innings, and UW-Stevens Point eventually took a four run victory.

In Edgewood College's second game of the day, the Eagles busted out the bats and took advantage of mistakes by Mount Mary. Edgewood College scored three runs in the first inning off only one hit. The Blue Angels (0-3) responded and piled up three hits in the bottom half of the inning, but only drove in one run. The Eagles added two more in the second before adding five in the third behind a two-run home run by Jessica Spitzer. After Diesch tossed three solid innings, DeJongh took over and threw two hitless innings which included four strikeouts.

Behind a Lindsey Elsing double, an Unser single, and a two bagger by Spitzer, Edgewood College tacked on three more runs to make the score 13-1. In the fifth, three straight walks loaded the bases for pinch-hitter Klossner. The freshman poked a single, driving in Landon to add to the lead. The Eagles failed to capitalize any more runs, but were comfortably in the driver's seat. DeJongh closed the game out in style as she sat down all three batters she faced and the Eagles took the 14-1 victory.

Edgewood College will continue the Finlandia Dome Tournament with games against Simpson College and Loras College Sunday morning.
