Box Score MADISON, Wis. – It seems that these days, not even the cold can slow down the Edgewood College women's soccer team. The Eagles blanked Alverno College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to extend their unbeaten streak to 13 straight games. Edgewood College has posted 10 shutouts during the streak and has outscored their opponents 29-3.
The Eagles (12-2-1, 8-0 NACC) was not having a hard time possessing the ball against the Inferno, but Edgewood College did seem to have hard time finding the back of the net. Seven shots were fired by the Eagles before one of the team's seven corner kicks paid off. Haley Gaines set up the corner at 42:37, which she has done a majority of the recent games, and floated a nice ball into the box. Brianna Franken was at the back post when she connected with a header to the goalie's left side for the score.
After halftime, the Eagles continued to hold a majority of the possession and attempted five more shots, but did not add to their lead. Alverno (7-7, 2-6 NACC) had their best opportunity in the 62nd minute as Sydney Wisner ripped a shot from 22 yards out. The ball sailed and looked like it had a chance, but a backpedaling Tori Fortney just got a hand on it to knock it away.
Edgewood College held a 13-2 shot advantage and an 11-0 corner kick advantage for the game. Alverno's Samantha Robinson snagged nine saves, but allowed the game's only score. The goal was Franken's fourth of the year off of Gaines' second assist.
On Tuesday, Edgewood College will head to Mequon to take on Concordia University Wisconsin (7-7, 5-2 NACC). Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with live stats available on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
