Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The final score of tonight's women's soccer matchup between Edgewood College and Wisconsin Lutheran does not justify the entirety of the game. The Eagles dominated possession for the majority of the game, outshooting the Warriors 20-1 in a 2-0 victory from Warrior Field.
Edgewood College (11-2-1, 7-0 NACC) unleashed their offense early, attempting six shots in the first ten minutes while holding possession on the attacking third of the field. The Eagles had multiple scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net. Finally, in the 39th minute, Edgewood College broke through as Ashley Pandow touched a pass to Brianna Franken who ripped a shot from 18 yards out for the game's first score.
Momentum continued for the Eagles in the second half, but again Edgewood College had a hard time sneaking a score past Wisconsin Lutheran's Kate Gucinski. Another opportunity came in the 82nd minute as Haley Gaines took one of the Eagles' 10 corners of the game. The freshman sent it in and after a scuffle in the box, Hailey Boyle collected the loose ball and pushed to Gucinski's left for her second goal of the year.
Eleven different Edgewood College players attempted a shot, totaling 20 in all while Mandy Schnell of Wisconsin Lutheran (4-9-2, 2-3-2 NACC) fired the Warriors only shot of the match, which Tori Fortney saved in goal. After losing their first two contests of the year, the Eagles have not fallen in 12 straight contests while outscoring opponents 28-3.
Edgewood College has locked in a spot for the NACC tournament and will host Alverno College on Saturday for an attempt to stay undefeated in the conference. Live video and live stats will be available on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
