RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Two different categories that have led Edgewood College so far this season are goal scoring and a strong defense. The Eagles continued that trend on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win against conference opponent Dominican University at West Campus Field in Illinois.

Although Edgewood College (6-1, 2-0 NAC) scored less than three goals for the first time this season, it was all the Eagles needed. Edgewood College peppered the goal in the first half with nine shots to Dominican's three. The Eagles converted a chance in the 22nd minute when Emily Berns beat two defenders off the dribble and fired a shot past the keeper on the far post for her third goal of the season. Elaine Gerry added to that lead four minutes later off an assist from teammates Jenna Mineau and Kristina Santaga. Gerry has scored a goal in every game for Edgewood College this season to bring her season total to 11 and 86 goals for her career.

The Dominican University (2-4, 1-1 NAC) offense was stifled by the Eagles' defense and could only get off five shots all game, with one of them being on the frame. That shot was saved by Kristi Frisch to preserve the 2-0 lead and give her two shutouts on the season for Edgewood College. Frisch is 5-0 this year in goal for the Eagles tallying nine saves.

Opposing goalkeepers Allie Wagner and Sara Stepanovich each played a half for the Stars. Wagner had four saves and allowed both goals while Stepanovich tallied two saves for Dominican.

Edgewood College has won five straight contests and will try to extend that streak against Maranatha Baptist on Thursday, September 20. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Breese Stevens Field in Madison. Live video and live stats will be provided for this matchup. These links can be found on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
