VERONA, Wis. –In their final doubleheader of the year, the Edgewood College softball team took a lead against Rockford College in game one, but Regents came back for the 5-2 victory. In game two, the Eagles trailed by one run going to the bottom of the seventh and rallied for two runs, with Alexis Unser driving in the final run with one out to give the Eagles the 6-5 victory.

Game one appeared to be a pitcher's duel as the teams combined for only one hit through the first three and a half innings. After singling to start the bottom of the fourth inning, Carlene DeCoster stole second and later scored on a Regent throwing error to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

However, Rockford (14-24, 9-15 NAC) answered in the top of the fifth inning. Jennifer Zulkanycz singled to start the inning and was sacrificed to second before she scored on an Eagle fielding error. Jessica Bjerning followed with a single to score Katy Atkerson and put the Regents up 2-1.

Edgewood College responded in the fifth inning as Emily Monson and Kayla Rackow started the frame with back-to-back singles. Jessica Spitzer then laced a single to right field where the right fielder misplayed the ball, allowing Monson to score and tie the game. Nevertheless, the Eagles couldn't get another hit in the inning and left runners on second and third.

The Regents' Jossilyn Jones quickly gave the lead back to Rockford as she ripped a home run down the left field line in the sixth. Rockford then tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh to take the 5-2 win.

The Eagles left seven runners on base, while Rockford stranded three runners. Monson led the Eagle offense, going 2-for-4 with one run scored from the leadoff spot. DeCoster recorded two stolen bases while Charlie Leikness tossed five innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits. She also struck out four batters.

Game two was also a see-saw affair as the Regents grabbed the first lead in the third inning. Paige Newhuis led off the frame with a home run to left field, putting Rockford up 1-0.

In the fourth inning, it looked as though Edgewood College (14-24, 7-17 NAC) would grab the lead. Rackow and Spitzer started the inning with consecutive singles before DeCoster laced a double up the middle to score Rackow and put runners on second and third with no outs. Alyssa Schulting reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases with just one out, but Regent pitcher Sarah Moritz got out of the jam to keep the game tied at 1-1.

The Eagles finally broke through in the fifth inning as Paityn Albers started the frame with a single up the middle. Monson followed with a walk and Rackow moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt. DeCoster then reached on a fielding error that scored two, putting the Eagles up 3-1 after five innings.

The lead was short lived, however, as Rockford used the long ball to get back into the contest. With runners on first and second, Nicole Lawler ripped a three-run home run to left center, giving the Regents a 4-3 lead. After a pair of outs, Jessica Segalla laced a solo home run down the left field line, to give Rockford a two run cushion.

The Eagles cut into the deficit in the sixth as Leikness placed a two-out single into right center field to put runners on first and second and bring Monson to the plate. Monson promptly ripped a single to left center to score Tiffani Pierce and bring the Eagles within one.

After Brittany Andrews sat the Regents down in order in the top of the seventh inning, Spitzer started a rally with an infield single. DeCoster then reached on a fielder's choice and stole second with Katie Landon at the plate. Landon worked to a full count a fouled off four pitches before she got one she could handle. On the 10th pitch of the at-bat she crushed a double down the left field line to tie the game at five. Schulting followed Landon with a single to right center to put the winning run on third base with only one out. Unser didn't waste any time as she placed the first pitch she saw into right center field to score Landon and give the Eagles the 6-5 victory.

Playing their final career games, Rackow went 2-for-3 with one run scored while Monson went 1-for-3, scoring one run and driving in another. Andrews earned the complete game victory in her final game. She gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits. Spitzer also recorded two hits as she went 2-for-4 while 10 Eagles recorded a hit in the game.
