Gerry nets 100th career goal in rout of Muskies

Box Score MADISON, Wis. – Tuesday was senior night at Breese Stevens Field for the Edgewood College women's soccer team and the six Eagles who were honored came to play. Edgewood College tied a season high goal total and senior Elaine Gerry scored her 100th career goal as the Eagles cruised to a 10-0 victory over Lakeland College.

In the 68th minute, Elizabeth Koller fired a deep pass ahead of Gerry who was sprinting down the middle of the field. Gerry took two dribbles to her left, past the goalkeeper and fired in her 100th career goal. Gerry became only the second player in Edgewood College history to reach 100 goals and is four scores behind the Eagles all-time leading goal scorer Julie Veloff.

The Eagles (15-3, 11-1 NAC) did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard as Gerry netted two goals in the first ten minutes. Senior forward Kristina Santaga followed suit with a goal in the 20th minute. Edgewood College continued their surge four minutes later when Moe Baemmert netted her fourth goal of the year and Gerry completed her hat trick to make the score 5-0.

Megan Falk sustained the Eagles attack with a goal in the 32nd minute and Hailey Boyle added a pair of scores, including one with two seconds remaining in the half to give Edgewood College a 8-0 lead at the break.  At halftime, Edgewood College held a 23-2 shot advantage over Lakeland College (3-14, 2-10 NAC).

Gerry added two more goals after the break including the score that put her at the century mark. The six seniors who were honored on Tuesday night showed their leadership against the Muskies. The four offensive players in Emily Berns, Gerry, Koller, and Santaga combined for six goals and four assists. Ashley Alonso played a large part for the defense in the shutout win in front of senior goalkeeper Kristi Frisch who saved the only shot she faced in 75 minutes.

Lakeland's goalkeeper Ali Thompson snagged 13 saves in the loss. Frisch picked up her ninth win of the year while Megan Bower finished the last 15 minutes in goal for the Eagles.
