MILWUAKEE, Wis. – Although the Edgewood College women's soccer team had been averaging 3.6 goals per game coming into today's contest, the Eagles had not scored more than three goals in the past six games. Edgewood College put that stat behind them as they unleashed for seven goals in a 7-1 victory over Alverno College.
Elaine Gerry put the Eagles (13-2, 9-1 NAC) on the board less than two minutes into the game and they never looked back. Gerry added another score five minutes later for her second of the game and 94th of her career. With 17:09 on the clock, Emily Dorsett found Kristina Santaga who buried the ball in the back of the net to put Edgewood College up 3-0. The Eagles attacked the goal the rest of the half as they led the shot total 12-1, but did not add to their lead.
In the second half, Edgewood College did not waste any time and Emily Dorsett netted two goals in the first three minutes and 25 seconds. Kristina Santaga and Ashley Alonso assisted Dorsett for her second and third goals of the year. Santaga's pass gave her 10 assists on the year. Alverno (4-11, 0-9 NAC) only attempted two shots all half, but Nava Moniriarani cashed in on an attempt in the 58th minute to cut the Inferno's deficit to four.
Edgewood College tacked on another goal in the 68th minute when Santaga found Mackenzie Klingert who fired in her second goal of the year. With less than five minutes on the clock, Brianne Meehl dished out her first assist of the year as she set up Hailey Boyle who added an insurance goal to make the final 7-1.
Eagles' goalkeeper Tori Fortney picked up her fifth win as she played the entire first half and grabbed one save. Kristi Frisch played 30 minutes in goal for Edgewood College and Megan Bower saw her first action in goal this season as she closed out the game in goal. Samantha Robinson played both halves in goal for the Inferno and snagged eight saves in the loss.
The Eagles will not have any days off as they head to Appleton tomorrow to take on Lawrence University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. as Edgewood College will try to push their winning streak to seven games. Live stats will be provided. This link can be found at EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
