MADISON, Wis. – Cooler temperatures haven't cooled off the Edgewood College women's soccer team. Fresh off learning of their regional ranking, the Eagles blanked Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-0 at Breese Stevens Field. The Eagles posted three goals in the first 19 minutes and outshot the Warriors 28-1 in the game.

Edgewood College (3-0, 1-0 NAC) junior forward Elaine Gerry added to her Northern Athletics Conference leading goal total with two scores in the first 15 minutes. In the ninth minute, freshman Ashley Alonso redirected a Wisconsin Lutheran goal kick back to Gerry near the top of the penalty area. Gerry turned and fired a rocket from 20 yards out underneath the crossbar to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later, Molly Haertle and Emily Berns combined on a nifty give and go pass on the left side of the penalty box. When Warrior goalie Mel Lemke came out to cut down the angle on Berns, she slid a crossing pass to a wide open Gerry just two yards out. Gerry deposited the easy finish into the net for her ninth goal in three game this season.

Berns scored her first collegiate goal in the 19th minute. Gerry took a point blank shot from 15 yards out, that Lemke stopped. However, when a Warrior defender attempted to clear the ball it went directly to the foot of Berns, who buried a shot into the back of the net from 12 yards out, giving her a goal and an assist on the night.

The Eagles held control of the run of play the entire second half, but couldn't score another against Wisconsin Lutheran College (0-2, 0-1 NAC) who fielded only 10 players due to a rash of recent injuries. Kristi Frisch had a quiet night in goal for the Eagles, before yielding to Tori Fortney in the 64th minute. Neither Eagle keeper was forced to make a save, while their counterpart Lemke had 13 saves on the night.

Edgewood College will play back-to-back road games against Midwest Conference opponents this weekend. The Eagles will battle Ripon College on Saturday and St. Norbert College on Sunday.
