BELOIT, Wis. – Junior forward Elaine Gerry provided an explosive charge that unleashed an avalanche of goals to help the Edgewood College women's soccer bury Beloit College 10-3 at the Strong Complex. Gerry matched her own career-high with six goals, including four of the Eagles' eight second half scores, to turn a 2-1 match at halftime into a rout.

Beloit College actually grabbed the lead with a goal from a corner kick from Liz Ceperley to Molly Dickson in the fourth minute of play. Gerry equalized with a goal seven minutes later, and put the Eagles to the lead in the 21st minute off an assist from freshman Ashley Alonso. Edgewood College outshot the Buccaneers 17-2 in the first half, but only led 2-1.

Molly Hartle gave the Eagles some breathing room with a score five minutes into the second half, assisted by Gerry, to make it 3-1 in favor of the Eagles. At that point, Gerry caught fire. The junior from Prairie du Sac scored four goals in a span of 7:29. She banged home unassisted goals in the 58th and 62nd minute, and then scored her fifth of the day off a pass from Kristina Santaga in the 64th minute. Gerry ended her personal streak with another goal two minutes later and the Eagles held a commanding 7-1 lead.

Head Coach Tim Alexander substituted liberally in the final 20 minutes, but even the Eagles' reserves found the net. Megan Falk scored off an assist from Zenaida Cordova in the 79th minute. After Beloit's Kelsi Brooks scored, the Eagles Katherine Lyon answered back with her first collegiate goal 13 seconds later. Lyons would tally a second goal in the 87th minute to conclude the Eagles' scoring. Beloit's Molly Dickson put the final tally on the board in the 88th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Tori Fortney got the start in net for the Eagles, making one save and allowing one goal for her first career victory. Caitlin Clifford relieved Fortney in the 72nd minute and made one save. Beloit goalkeeper Alex Spirov put up a whopping 16 saves under constant pressure from the Eagles.

The six goals by Gerry tied her career-high. Gerry also scored six times in an 8-2 victory over Marian University on September 17, 2008 when Gerry was a freshman. Her total still left her one goal short of Jennifer Brabant's single match record of seven goals set on September 11, 1993 against Judson College. Gerry joins Brabant as the only two Eagles to score at least six goals in a match twice in their career. Gerry's 13 points in the match also tied her career-high, just one point off of Brabant's school record of 14.

Edgewood College (2-0) will open Northern Athletics Conference play on Tuesday night against Wisconsin Lutheran College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Breese Stevens Field.
