MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team played their first home game in nearly two weeks and did not disappoint the home fans. Elaine Gerry put the Eagles ahead of Marian University in the first half, and the Eagles played solid defense the rest of the way, taking the contest 2-0.

Marian (5-5, 3-2 NAC) put pressure on the Eagle defense early, registering three shots in the first four minutes. Mollie Tennessen ripped a shot in the second minute that was saved by goalkeeper Kristi Frisch. The Sabres recorded two more shots, but neither was on net, and those were the only three shots Marian recorded all night as the Eagle defense tighted.

Play quickly switched to the other end of the field, and Gerry ripped a shot that was saved by Caitlyn Rosenberger. Gerry then took a pair of shots there were off target before Molly Haertle put consecutive shots on net, but both were turned away by Rosenberger.

After a foul in the box, Gerry took a penalty kick for the Eagles in the 34th minute. Her shot was to the low left corner of the net and it went through the keepers hands before going into the net to give Edgewood College (6-3-1, 3-1-1 NAC) the 1-0 advantage. The goal was Gerry's 12th of the season and 63rd of her career, putting her in sole possession of second place on Edgewood College's all-time list.

The match remained tied until the 65th minute when Emily Dorsett carried the ball down the right side of the field. She slid a pass to Jenna Mineau who was 10 yards away in the right center of the box. Mineau's took a shot that bounced just in front of Rosenberger and it bounced over her and into the net for Mineau's third goal of the year.

The Eagles took a few more shots the rest of the way, but not found the back of the net, as they took the 2-0 victory. In the win, Edgewood College outshot the Sabres 18-3, putting 10 shots on net. Rosenberger made eight saves for the Sabres while Frisch recorded one save for her third shutout of the season.

Edgewood College will remain at home when they face Benedictine University on Saturday. It is also parent's day for the 1:30 p.m. start at Breese Stevens Field. Edgewood College will provide live stats for the contest with the link being found on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
