MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team had the chances they needed, but couldn't score the game winner in 0-0 tie with Dominican University. The Eagles had two golden chances, one in each overtime period, but failed to score.
Late in the first overtime period,
Jenna Mineau threded a short through ball to
Molly Haertle near the top of the box. Haertle was one-on-one with Dominican goalkeeper Megan Schultz, but didn't hit the shot with quite enough pace and Schultz was able to deflect the ball wide.
In the second overtime,
Elaine Gerry found herself behind the defense with the ball. Gerry tried a shot from 20 yards, but Schultz smothered it to preserve the tie. Edgewood College (4-2-1, 1-0-1 NAC) outshot the Stars 12-3, but only put those two shots on net. Dominican University (2-3-1, 1-0-1 NAC) forced Eagle goalkeeper
Kristi Frisch to make just one save.
Gerry led Edgewood College with four shots taken, while
Emily Berns had three.
Kristina Santaga fired off two shots.
The Eagles will be on the road for their next match. Edgewood College will travel to Maranatha Baptist for a Tuesday afternoon Northern Athletics Conference match.
