VERONA, Wis. – It was only fitting that the start time of the Edgewood College softball team's doubleheader with Benedictine University was delayed 20 minutes after waiting two weeks to face off due to bad weather. After the delay, Benedictine jumped ahead early and never looked back as they swept the double head by the scores of 6-0 and 8-0.

Brittany Adcox started a one-out rally in the top of the first inning with a single up the middle. Adcox then went first- to-third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch to put the Eagles (28-5, 17-1 NAC) ahead 1-0. She also started the game in the circle and sat down the Eagles in order in the first inning.

Facing the top base stealing team in the NCAA, catcher Emily Monson was up to the task early as she threw out the first three would be base stealers over the first three innings. On the day, Monson threw out 4-of-10 Benedictine base stealers.

Trailing 3-0 in the fourth, Edgewood College (12-22, 7-13 NAC) threatened to cut into the deficit. Bria Hahn and Jessica Spitzer recorded consecutive singles and Carlene DeCoster loaded the bases with an infield single. However, Adcox induced the next batter to groundout and end the threat.

Benedictine tacked on one run in the fifth and added a pair in the seventh while Adcox held the Eagle offense to just one hit over the final three innings as Benedictine took the game 6-0. Adcox struck out five and allowed only four hits while moving to 17-5 on the season. Laura Christensen led the Benedictine offense, going 3-for-4 with one run scored while Edgewood College had four different players record one hit, the final player being DJ Endres. Hahn threw all seven innings and only allowed three earned runs while striking out one.

In game two, Benedictine jumped ahead in the second inning when Christensen ripped a two-run triple to left center field. The Eagles then got back-to-back run scoring singles in the third to make the score 4-0. Benedictine blew the game open in the fifth as Kara Walsh drove in two with a double and Cassi Cappetto hit a two-run home run to put Benedictine up 8-0.

Edgewood College threatened to extend the game as DeCoster led off the fifth inning with a walk. After a pair of groundouts, Karmen Dorshorst reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners. However, pitcher Sam Corban got the next batter to groundout to end the game.

Dorshorst had both of Edgewood College's hits in game two while Cappetto led Benedictine, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs batted in.

The Eagles will close their home season on Sunday at Ceniti Park when they host Rockford College on Senior Day. Edgewood College will provide live video and live statistics for the 12:00 p.m. start.
