VERONA, Wis. – After having more than week off, the Edgewood College softball hosted the Northern Athletics Conference's second place team, Aurora University. The Eagles trailed from the onset and couldn't muster a comeback as they dropped game one 11-1. In the nightcap, Edgewood College jumped ahead, but couldn't hold the lead, falling 2-1.

Brooke Spencer led off the first game and took a 2-2 pitch over the center field fence to put the Spartans (21-7, 11-1 NAC) up 1-0. Aurora tacked on two more runs in the third inning before the Eagles got on the board.

With two outs and a runner on first base, Emily Monson singled to put runners on first and second. Bria Hahn followed with a single down the left field line to score Kayla Rackow who walked earlier in the frame, and the Eagles (10-18, 5-8 NAC) trailed 3-1.

However, that was as close as the Eagles got as the Spartans scored four runs in each of the next two innings to take the contest 11-1 in five innings. Spencer led Aurora's offense as she went 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs score and three runs batted in. Monson, Hahn and Carlene DeCoster each recorded a hit in the loss for the Eagles.

Edgewood College tried to turn the tide early in game two as Monson reached on an error to start the game. She then moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a Jessica Spitzer single to put the Eagles up 1-0.

However, the Spartans had a response as Sarah Clauser reached on a infield single to start a rally with one out in the second inning. She then scored when Caitlyn Clay ripped a double down the left field line to knot the score at one. Aurora then took the lead in the third inning when Tristan Wilcox hit a home run to deep left center field to put the Spartans ahead 2-1.

The Spartans threatened to extend the lead in both the fifth and sixth innings, but Charlie Leikness stranded the bases full of Spartans in the fifth and left runners on second and third in the sixth. However, the Eagle offense could not muster and more runs against pitcher Lindsey Decker as she struck out the side in the seventh inning to give Aurora the 2-1 victory and the sweep.

Decker struck out nine batters while walking none and allowing only four hits in her complete game victory. The Spartan offense was led by three players who tallied two hits apiece. For the Eagles it was Jessica Diaz that led the way offensively as she went 2-for-3 at the plate. Spitzer and Pam Sommer recorded the Eagles' other hits with Spitzer driving in the only run.

Edgewood College will be in action again tomorrow as they travel to Marian University, weather permitting. Marian will provide live stats for the 5:00 p.m. first pitch. Keep checking EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com for more updates regarding tomorrows contest.
