VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College softball team kept their momentum rolling from yesterday's sweep when they beat Wisconsin Lutheran College 8-0 in game one of their doubleheader on Sunday. However, that was as far as the momentum brought them as the Warriors held off a late Eagle rally to take game two 6-3 and salvage the split.

The Eagles (10-16, 5-7 NAC) threatened in the first inning as they left the bases loaded, but the hits kept coming in the second inning as Karmen Dorshorst started a two-out rally with an infield single. After Dorshorst stole second, Emily Monson drove her in with a single to right field and advanced to second on the throw. Bria Hahn followed with a single to center that scored Monson before Jessica Spitzer put the Eagles up 4-0 with a home run to center field.

Spitzer struck again in the fourth inning as she came up with runners on second and third. She took a 2-2 pitch into left field to score both runners and put the Eagles up 6-0. Spitzer then scored on a wild pitch and Pam Sommer came in after to give the Eagles an 8-0 cushion.

That was all the support Hahn needed in the circle as she tossed a complete game four-hitter after setting the Warriors down in order in the fifth inning. Four Eagles recorded at least two hits in the contest and were led by Monson who went 3-for-3. Hahn and Spitzer each went 2-for-2 while Carlene DeCoster went 2-for-3 in the win.

The Warriors (4-16, 1-9 NAC) turned the tide early in the game two as they scored twice in the first inning. With two outs, Katie Sloan struck out, but reached first base on a passed ball to keep the inning alive. After a walk, Jocelyn Bykowski singled down the left field line to load the bases. Katie Timm came up clutch as she ripped a single up the middle to put Wisconsin Lutheran up 2-0.

Wisconsin Lutheran added a run in the second and exploded for three more in the fifth inning as the frame started with back-to-back singles. An error loaded the bases before the Eagles cut down the next run at the plate. The next batter hit a groundball and the Eagles tried to get the runner at home again, but the throw was low, allowing the run to score. Timm then came up and laced another two-run single to put Wisconsin Lutheran up 6-0 after four and one half innings.

Kayla Rackow got the Eagles on the board in the home half of the inning when she hit the first home run of her career to left field. Still trailing 6-1 in the seventh inning, the Eagles mounted a comeback as Jasha Gilbert sparked the rally with a single up the middle. Dorshorst and Rackow followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Hahn then reached on an error, which brought in a run and the Eagles had the tying run at the plate in the form of Spitzer with two-outs. Spitzer drew a 10 pitch walk to put the tying run on base. However, the next batter flied out to left field to end the game as the Warriors escaped with the 6-3 win.

Rackow was the only Eagle to post more than one hit as she went 2-for-2 at the plate. Gilbert threw four innings and gave up five runs with only one being earned. For the Warriors, it was Timm that led the way as she went 2-for-4 with four runs batted in while Kendra Thomas threw all seven innings and struck out eight Eagles to earn her first win of the season.

The Eagles will have six days off before facing Benedictine University on Saturday, April 16. Edgewood College plays at home again next Sunday when they host Aurora University. Both first pitches from Ceniti Park are scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
