CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The Edgewood College Eagles softball team finished their spring trip with split as the Eagles topped Hamilton College before falling to The College of Wooster. In game one, Emily Monson drove in all three Eagle runs as the Edgewood College topped Hamilton 3-0. Game two was a little different however, as Wooster defeated the Eagles 6-3.

The game agianst Hamilton (1-7) remained scoreless until the fifth inning when DJ Endres started a rally with a one out infield single. Karmen Dorshorst followed with another infield single and Kayla Rackow moved the runners over with a sacrafice bunt before Monson struck for the first time. With runners on second and third, Monson laced the first pitch she saw to center field for a double to score both runners and put the Eagles up 2-0.

The junior from Madison would strike again in the seventh as she tacked on and insurance run. Just like before, Monson attacked the first pitch and this time sent the ball over the left field fence for her second career home run and first homer that wasn't and inside the park home run.

Those three runs were all pitcher Bria Hahn needed as she threw a seven inning shutout, giving up only five hits and throwing just 70 pitches. Hanh struck out four Continentals and only faced five batters over the minimum, earning her second win of the season. Monson led the Eagles at the plate, going 3-for-4 with those three runs batted in, while Jessica Spitzer went 2-for-4 in the win.

In game two, Wooster (4-6) wasted no time taking the lead as they scored a run in the top of the first with out a hit to take a 1-0 lead.

However, the Eagles (5-9) were quick to respond in the bottom half of the frame. With an out, Hahn started the inning with a rocket single down the left field line and Spitzer followed with a single through the left side. After a Pam Sommer walk and an out, Nicole Kalscheur came up clutch with a two out RBI double. Kalscheur took the first pitch she saw and ripped it down the right field line to put the Eagles ahead 2-1 after the first inning.

The Fighting Scots didn't give up as the scored single runs in each of the next two innings to take a 3-2 lead. In the fifth, Wooster tacked on two more runs, coming on back-to-back singles by Danielle Grooms and Mariah Alderman to put the Fighting Scots up 5-2.

Edgewood College started to comeback in the sixth inning as Monson drove in Monica Humphrey who singled earlier in the inning and the Eagles trailed 5-3 after six innings.

The Fighting Scots answered that run with a run of their own in the top of the seventh to maintain a three run lead going into the bottom of the seventh, where the Eagles threatened to comeback. After an out, Sommer walked and Carlene DeCoster reached on an infield single. They both advanced on a wild pitch, but the Eagles could not push the runs across as they fell 6-3 to end their trip.

Hahn, Humphey and Jessica Diaz led the Eagles at the plate, each recording two hits in the loss.
Edgewood College will have just over a week off before they open Northern Athletics Conference play at MSOE on March, 30. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
