LISLE, Ill. - The game had a strong feeling of déjà vu even before the Edgewood College women's basketball team arrived at the Rice Center. The Eagles were playing in the same gym against the same opponent who ended the Eagles' season last year, and unfortunately, result was also the same. Benedictine University defeated Edgewood College 62-58 in a Northern Athletics Conference Tournament quarterfinal, ending Edgewood College's season at 14-12.

Edgewood College received three quick field goals from Melanie Walker, Shae Beckwith and Danielle Dixon for a 7-1 lead, but that would equal Edgewood College's largest lead of the game. The rest of the first half was a see-saw affair with four ties and five lead changes. Benedictine University (16-9) ultimately claimed the halftime advantage. Tracey Walsh scored the last five points of the half for Benedictine for a 31-27 lead.

The second half was an uphill battle and Edgewood College could never quite reach the top. Benedictine University's Michelle Gaede hit a three-point basket to give the home team a 43-34 lead with less than 14 minutes left to play, before Edgewood College made their move. Maggie Peerenboom sunk a three-point basket to get Edgewood College back within four points, but Benedictine extended their lead to 51-43 with just under seven minutes to go.

Later, trailing 59-53, Edgewood College scored five straight points, including four from Brittany Bylsma to cut the Benedictine lead all the way to one at 59-58 with 21 second left to play. Edgewood College fouled on the next possession and Benedictine's Linda Arias made just one of two shots for a 60-58 lead. Edgewood College called timeout to set up a play, but lost the ball out of bounds on their next possession. Benedictine's Colleen Forkin made two free throws with four seconds left to clinch the game and write the final chapter in Edgewood College's season.

The loss ended the career of Edgewood College's only senior Shae Beckwith. Beckwith scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds in her final game. She finishes her career with 965 points which ranks ninth on Edgewood College all-time scoring list. Beckwith is also third all-time in assists with 291. Her two steals against Benedictine gave her 187 for her career, which fifth in school history.

Alison Tobin came off the bench to score 13 points to lead Edgewood College in scoring. Beckwith had 12 points, while Dixon added 10 points and nine rebounds. Bylsma flirted with a triple-double, scoring nine points, grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds and swatting seven blocked shots. Edgewood College finishes at 14-12 for the second consecutive year under head coach Casey Thousand.
