AURORA, Ill. – The Edgewood University women's basketball team fell at Aurora University in the NACC Tournament Quarterfinal on Wednesday night. The Spartans took advantage of a hot start in the first and second quarter to take home the 81-70 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (12-14) shot a game-high 69.23 percent (9-for-13) from the floor and went 4-for-6 (66.67 percent) from three-point range in the opening quarter. Despite a strong opening 10 minutes from the Eagles, Aurora University (21-5) led by one point (25-24) after the dust settled on the first quarter.
- The Spartans took advantage of strong shooting from beyond the arc in the second quarter. Aurora scored a game-high 28 points and went 6-for-8 from three-point range to take a 53-39 lead into halftime.
- The Eagles shooting struggled in the third quarter, only managing 14 points and going 5-for-21 (23.81 percent) from the floor.
- Edgewood University didn't give up in the fourth quarter, outscoring Aurora 17-11. Despite a strong push in the end, it was too little too late for the Eagles.
- Edgewood University led Aurora University 46 to 38 in rebounding on Wednesday evening. 18 of the Eagles rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Gunderson led the Eagles with 20 points. The senior went 6-for-13 from the floor, 2-for-3 from three-point range and 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Gunderson added eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
- Vesperman scored 13 points for the Eagles and added four steals.
- Lindsey scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
- Wollin pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and dished out four assists.
THE OPPOSITION
- All five starters for Aurora University scored in double-digits on Wednesday. Krystyna Manzanarez and Kylie Fischbach each scored 17 points. Alina Anderson netted 16 points, while Dani Antione and Riley Doggett both scored 14 for the Spartans.
- Anderson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while Fischbach added seven and Doggett pulled down six.
- Anderson added a game-high six assists.
