MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood University women's basketball team claimed a 65-55 victory over Illinois Tech to close out the 2025-26 regular season. The Eagles claimed the win and celebrated the careers of three fantastic seniors on Saturday. Laci Lindsey, Kate Gunderson, and Ella Hamacher each scored in double-digits in the NACC victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (12-13, 11-7 NACC) opened the first quarter with a whopping 24 points. The Eagles scored the final 11 points of the quarter, which featured three-point makes from Ava Berg and McKenna Reilly to take a 24-15 advantage into the second quarter.
- Illinois Tech (4-21, 3-15 NACC) hung tough with the Eagles in the second quarter, shooting 50 percent (5-for-10) from the floor and outscoring the Eagles 15-13 overall. Edgewood University led 37-30 going into halftime.
- Out of the break, the Eagles put on a strong defensive performance. The Eagles held the Scarlet Hawks to just 25 percent (3-for-12) shooting from the floor and seven points. A pair of three-point makes from Grace Vesperman and Ella Hamacher in the final three minutes of the third quarter helped the Eagles take back a double-digit lead.
- Laci Lindsey opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back three pointers to give the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 17 (54-37). The Scarlet Hawks responded with eight-straight points to reduce the Eagles lead to just nine points (56-47). Edgewood University stayed calm and collected, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final minute and solidifying the victory.
- The Eagles shot the ball well from the charity stripe, going 14-for-15 (93.3 percent).
- Edgewood University did well to limit turnovers on Saturday, only giving the ball up on 10 occasions. On the other side, the Eagles collected seven steals, led by three from Taylor Wollin.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Lindsey posted 13 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
- Gunderson scored 13 points, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out three assists.
- Hamacher added 10 points, going 2-for-5 from beyond the arc.
- Wollin scored seven points, pulled down six rebounds, dished out four assists, and added three steals.
THE OPPOSITION
- Chloe Churilla led the Scarlet Hawks with 19 points on Saturday. Churilla went 8-for-13 from the floor and added four rebounds.
- Halle Williams and Amanda Wang both collected nine points.
- Grace Goodnough pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
- Abigail Marino dished out a game-best eight assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles celebrated the careers of Ava Berg, Kate Gunderson and Grace Vesperman.
- Edgewood University is now 10-0 against Illinois Tech, all time. The Eagles and Scarlet Hawks first met during the 1993-94 season, although most meetings have occurred since the Scarlet Hawks joined the NACC in the 2018-19 academic year.
