LAKE FOREST, Ill. – If you believe in momentum heading into the postseason, then you have to feel good about where the Edgewood College women's soccer team is at the moment. The Eagles won their fourth consecutive match and sixth of their last seven in a 5-1 rout over Lake Forest College. The Eagles have two matches remaining in the regular season before opening the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament.

Edgewood College (11-4-1) wasted no time getting on the board on a chilly, windy day in Chicagoland. The Eagles junior forward tandem connected as Elaine Gerry assisted Kristina Santaga in the ninth minute to open the scoring. In the 20th minute, Gerry put herself in the scoring column with a 20-yard blast over the head of Lake Forest starting goalkeeper Bri Schleibinger to increase the margin to 2-0.

The Eagles then struck for three goals in a span of 4:34 early in the second half to remove any doubt about the outcome. Junior transfer Ashley Alonso scored her first goal as an Eagle in the 47th minute, bending a corner kick over the head of Forester back-up goalkeeper Maeve Connelly and directly into the net.

Just four minutes later, it was Gerry and Santaga scoring a mere 23 seconds apart. Gerry's goal came from assists by Alonso and Santaga and marked the 66th goal of her career, moving her into second place all-time in Northern Athletics Conference history. Santaga's goal, her eighth of the year, came unassisted. Only a Lake Forest College (6-8) goal by leading scorer Courtenay Raymond in the 65th minute minute prevented Kristi Frisch from earning a shutout. Frisch made one save before being relieved by Caitlin Clifford in the 76th minute.

Edgewood College only held a 17-10 advantage in shots, but put 10 balls on the frame, compared to just two for the Foresters. The Eagles will play their final regular season home game on Saturday against Rockford College. Edgewood College will honor their four seniors, Beth Sherwood, Janna Yost, Brittany Drewiske and Clare Schumacher, at halftime.
