Eagles tally six goals in victory over Alverno

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team came out and sent shot after shot at the Alverno College goal on Saturday. The Eagles scored three goals in each half and held the Inferno without a shot in their 6-0 victory on brisk fall afternoon.

Elaine Gerry scored her first goal of the game in the ninth minute when she took a pass from Emily Berns and buried her shot in the right side of the net. The Eagles (10-4-1, 7-2-1 NAC) did not strike again until the 27th minute when Kristina Santaga scored her sixth goal of the season. The junior from Green Bay took a pass from Katie Pampuch in the middle of the box and ripped a shot that deflected of an Inferno defender and into the net to give the Eagles 2-0 lead.

With only six seconds left in the first half, Jenna Mineau gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead going into the break. After a foul in the box, Mineau took a penalty kick and put her shot in the upper right side of the net for her fourth goal of the year.

The scoring continued in the second half as Emily Dorsett tallied her second goal of the season in the 51st minute. Mineau led Dorsett with a pass down the middle of the field and Dorsett buried her shot in the upper right corner of the net. Dorsett then assisted on the next goal, which was scored by Megan Falk.  Falk took the pass in the center of the box and slide the ball past Alverno's keeper to put the Eagles up 5-0.

Gerry capped the scoring in the 76th minute with her 14th goal of the season. She took a pass from Janna Yost and slide her shot to the lower left side of the net to make the score 6-0, which is how the game ended.

Goalkeeper, Samantha Robinson recorded 16 saves for Alverno (5-12, 1-8 NAC). She faced 38 Eagle shots, with 22 being on net. Kristi Frisch and Tori Fortney split time in goal for the Eagles, earning the team shutout.

Edgewood College will be in action again on Tuesday when the travel to Lake Forest, Illinois for a nonconference game with Lake Forest College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
