Eagles continue their high scoring ways

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – In their second game in as many days, the Edgewood College women's soccer team continued to put goals on the board against Illinois College. The Eagles came out and scored early and often as they tallied five first half goals in their 5-0 victory over the Lady Blues.

Just 13 minutes into the contest, Molly Haertle gave the Eagles (3-0) the lead with her third goal of the season. Six minutes later, Kristina Santaga put home a rebound off a shot by Elaine Gerry for her team leading fourth goal of the season to extend the Eagles' lead to two.

Gerry pushed the lead to three in the 27th minute with her first goal of the season on a pass from Clare Schumacher. Lexie Schmitgen notched the first goal of her career in the 34th minute on a free kick. Three minutes later, Beth Sherwood sent a pass to Alice Udelhofen who capped the scoring as the Eagles took the contest 5-0.

In the game, the Eagles outshot the Lady Blues (0-2) 22-7, including 15-4 in the first half. Edgewood College also tallied four corner kicks to Illinois College's one.

Edgewood College will have all week off before jumping into conference play on Saturday against Aurora University. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Breese Stevens Field.
