FULTON, Mo. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team continued their scoring ways as they topped Westminster College 4-1 on Saturday night. With the scored tied at the half, the Eagles pulled away in the second half when they scored early and often to earn their second victory of the season.
Edgewood College (2-0) got on the board when Kristina Santaga netted her second goal of the season in the 24th minute. She took a pass from Tami Oilschlager and ripped a shot into the back of the net to give the Eagles the advantage.
The lead did not last however, as Westminster's Jen Brotherton tallied the equalizer just a minute later. She took a corner kick from Megan Gunnels and headed it into the back of the net to tie the score.
The Eagles began to pull away from the Blue Jays (1-2) early in the second half as Molly Haertle took a pass from Clare Schumacher and registered her second goal of the season in the 51st minute to give the advantage back to the Eagles. Only 10 minutes later, Santaga extended the Eagles lead with her second goal of the contest with the assist going to Kelsey Beck.
Freshman Katie Pampuch then put the game out of reach with five minutes to go when she took a pass from Erica Svjose and ripped a shot that found the back of the net to make the score 4-1 in favor of Edgewood College.
Edgewood College outshot the Blue Jays 18-4 in the contest and tallied seven corner kicks to Westminster's one.
Edgewood College will return to the pitch on Sunday when they play at Illinois College. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
