Goals come in bunches for Eagles versus Cougars

MADISON, Wis. - It started with Elaine Gerry outrunning a defender to the ball for the first goal of the game, and ended with Moe Baemmert heading in a corner kick in the 90th minute. In between, eight other Edgewood College women's soccer players scored goals as the Eagles routed Concordia University Chicago 15-0 on Saturday afternoon at Breese Stevens Field.

After Gerry's first goal of the game in the ninth minute, Kristina Santaga scored twice in a span of 20 seconds for a 3-0 lead. She would add two second half goals to finish with four on the day and 10 through the first nine games of the season. Molly Haertle added fifth goal of the season, before three Eagles came off the bench to score three times in a two minute span at the end of the first half. Erica Svjose, Bammert and Katie Pampuch all tallied before the break.

Santaga added her second two goals in the 54th and 58th minute and Gerry scored the second of the day on a 30-yard blast in the 59th minute before the Eagles began substituting liberally. Kelsey Beck, Zenaida Cordova and Brianna Franken all scored before Baemmert added her second just before the final whistle.

Mackenzie Klingert and Svjose had two assists apiece. Clare Schumacher, Sophie Rodriguez, Lexie Schmitgen, Beck, Haertle and Cordova all had assists as well.

Kristi Frisch started in goal for the Eagles before yielding to freshman Amber Hranicka at halftime. Hranicka made one save in her career debut as Edgewood College outshot the Cougars 48-4 for the game. Concordia Chicago (0-7, 0-4 NAC) goalkeeper Sarah Ann Evans made 11 saves including nine in the first half.

Edgewood College will be on the road twice next week, first at Lawrence University on Wednesday and then at Dominican University on Saturday.
