FOND DU LAC, Wis. - It had been nearly 17 years since Marian University defeated Edgewood College in women's soccer, but the streak ended on Tuesday night. Marian scored a pair of first half goals on their only two shots on goal of the game, and shutout the Eagles offense in a 2-0 Sabre victory. The loss snapped Edgewood College's 24-match winning streak and 26-match unbeaten streak over Marian.

Marian University (4-3, 3-1 NAC) struck in just the second minute of the game, as Kim Kriese scored off a pass from Mariel Bartolutti for her school record tying 58th goal of her career. Thirty minutes later, the Sabres broke through again with a goal from Taylor Hozeska, assisted again by Bartolutti. The second goal marked only the second time in 26 matches that Sabres scored twice against Edgewood College (6-2, 2-2 NAC).

The Eagles put the full weight of their offensive attack on in the second half, unleashing nine of their 16 shots, but Sabre goalkeeper Tiffany Erdman made three of her five saves to preserve the shutout. Kristina Santaga got off a team-high eight shots including three on goal. Elaine Gerry took three shots. The victory by the Sabres was the first over the Eagles since 1993.

Edgewood College will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Concordia University Chicago at Breese Stevens Field. The game can be seen live on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
