Box Score
KENOSHA, Wis. - Scott Winters threw eight innings for the win against his former team and Tim Barry hit two home runs to set a new school record in the Edgewood College baseball team's 13-3 win over NCAA Division II member UW-Parkside. The Eagles pounded out 18 hits as every Eagle in the lineup recorded a hit for the second straight game.
Barry put the Eagles on the board in the first inning with a two-run blast to left field scoring Treye Dennison who had led off the game with a walk. The home run was Barry's sixth of the season and 13th of his career breaking the Edgewood College school record for career home runs previously held by Travis Krahn who hit 12 bombs from 2001-04. Barry would add another two-run home run in the ninth inning capping a 3-for-5 day with five runs batted in.
Winters, who pitched for the Rangers as a freshman in 2007, escaped early trouble in the first three innings and gave up just three walks and one hit over the next four innings. He finished the day with two earned runs and six hits allowed over eight innings pitched and five strikeouts. Winters becomes the first pitcher in the Northern Athletics Conference with six wins this season, improving to 6-2.
Edgewood College (21-12) broke the game open in the third inning, leading 2-1. Steven Binder drove in Ryan Walker from third base with an RBI single for a two-run cushion before Andrew King walked to load the bases. That's when Mike Selvaggi delivered the biggest blow. The sophomore crushed a ball into the right center field gap for a bases-clearing double to give the Eagles a 6-1 lead over UW-Parkside (12-36).
Mitch Mogensen hit RBI singles in both the fifth and sixth innings and added an RBI double in the eighth. Scott Ortega singled home Mogensen to make the score 11-1 in the eighth. Brad DeVault and Glenn Nowell teamed up to throw a perfect ninth inning to finish the game.
Selvaggi and Mogenson both matched Barry with a 3-for-5 days and matched each other with three runs batted in and a double apiece. Jimy Landwehr, King and Ortega each had two hits in the game.
Edgewood College sits tied for third in the Northern Athletics Conference heading into a crucial pair of weekend doubleheaders. The Eagles will take the short trip down I-94 to meet Maranatha Baptist on Friday before returning home for a showdown with NAC co-leader Concordia University Wisconsin on the following day. Saturday's games will also be LSM Chiropractic Senior Day which will honor the Eagles graduating seniors.
