RIVER FOREST, Ill. – NACC action continued for Baseball down south Saturday. They took on the Concordia Chicago Cougars in a key doubleheader. The Eagles (16-12, 10-6 NACC) took the first game 14-7. In game two, the Cougars (16-15, 11-6) walked it off with a 9-8 win.
GAME ONE: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 14, CONCORDIA CHICAGO 7
- A
Charlie Tompach double to right center in the second inning was the lone run from either team in the first three innings of action. A
Hayden Hellenbrand sacrifice fly to right field and a
Kyle Prindle two-RBI double to center field in the fourth plated three runs, while a single to center field from the Cougars left things at 4-1 Eagles after four.
- Edgewood University kept the pressure on in the fifth. Getting the bases loaded, Tompach walked in a run.
Aidan Kammer sent in another with a single through the right side, followed by
Mac Vesperman plating a third for a 7-1 lead.,
- Concordia Chicago struck back in the sixth. A double to right center opened the scoring before a two-RBI single to right center kept things rolling. A sacrifice ground out to short followed up an RBI single up the middle cut the Eagles lead to one.
- A five-run seventh from Edgewood University gave them cushion. A
Jacob Carney sacrifice fly to center field started the rally. Kammer and Vesperman added a run each with a single to right center and a double to right field respectively. Carney continued to shine with a two-RBI single up the middle in the eighth to put things well out of reach for the Cougars.
- Tompach hit 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.
Ben Truby swung 3-for-5.

Kris Hahn and
Jake Lueptow teamed up for an impressive nine innings on the mound. Hahn earned the victory with six innings pitched, allowing only three earned runs and fanning six. Lueptow closed the door with an extended relief outing, tossing three innings with one earned run allowed and two strikeouts for the save.
GAME TWO: CONCORDIA CHICAGO 9, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 8
- The Eagles started strong, leading 5-1 after three. Tompach singled to left field to open the scoring in the second. A four-run third pushed the advantage, with Kammer and Truby hitting outfield singles to plate one run apiece and Vesperman adding another with a sacrifice fly to left. A home run to center field in the bottom of the third put the Cougars on the board.
- Vesperman continued his strong day with an RBI single to right in the fourth, but Concordia Chicago found their momentum with their bats in the bottom of the frame. Three outfield singles brought in four runs, while a double to left center would even things 6-6 for the hosts.
- Hellenbrand and Prindle each plated runs with outfield singles in the fifth to claim a 8-6 edge. The bats for both sides would settle down until the eighth, where the Cougars closed within 8-7 with a bases-loaded walk. Concordia Chicago would go down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth, but an outfield single scored a pair of run to walk it off.
- Brendan Holloway swung 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Jake Mahler was the hero of the second game for the Cougars, hitting the walk-off single and swinging 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two walks, and a home run.
- Kammer hit 3-for-5 with a pair of runs. Prindle, Truby, and
Carter Kelley each posted a pair of hits.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Lueptow's save was his first as an Eagle.
- The Eagles have won two of their last three outings against Concordia Chicago, including a 4-1 victory in last year's NACC Tournament.

Edgewood University returns home to start a five game homestand Wednesday. They'll host Rockford for a doubleheader as NACC action continues. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Verona, Wis.
