Eagles bounce back for Game 2 win against Stars on Cutting Edge Program Day

VERONA, Wis. – Baseball continued their home stretch with Cutting Edge Program Day at Stampfl Field. They took on the Dominican Stars in a NACC doubleheader. The Stars (11-16, 4-10 NACC) got the better of the Eagles (14-10, 8-4) with a late offensive explosion in a 14-13 victory, but Edgewood University bounced back with a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: DOMINICAN 14, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 13
- While the Stars got on board first with a two-run home run in the first, the Eagles scored four unanswered. Aidan Kammer singled in a pair in the first, while a Jacob Carney fielder's choice and Dominican miscue added a pair in the second for a 4-2 advantage.

- A sacrifice fly in the fifth and an RBI double in the sixth helped the Stars keep pace with Edgewood University after Hayden Hellenbrand doubled in a pair in the fifth.

- After Dominican closed within one with an RBI single in the top of the seventh, the Eagles took full advantage of Stars mistakes in the bottom of the frame. Plating seven unearned runs, including a Ryan Harris sacrifice fly and a Ben Truby two-RBI double, Edgewood University surged ahead 13-5.

- The Stars would have the last laugh in the end. A double, a single, and a fielder's choice added up to a three-run eighth before they broke out fireworks in the ninth. A two-run homer, an RBI double, and a three-run home run pushed them ahead 14-13 and the Eagles had no answers in the bottom of the frame.

- Tyler Johnson posted four RBIs, including a home run, for Dominican. The Stars finished with five doubles and three home runs with Ricky Powell tallying one of each.

- Kannen Smith earned the victory and Aaron O'Grady the save for Dominican, each posting a scoreless inning of work.

- Hellenbrand, Kyle Prindle, and Kammer each earned three hits.

GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 7, DOMINICAN 1
- A steady parade of runs got the Eagles rolling in the second game. A Kammer fielder's choice plated one in the first. While an outfield single in the top of the second evened things for the Stars, Carter Kelley broke the tie with a no-doubt home run to left field.

- An error in the third and a bases loaded walk in the fourth kept Edgewood University in the driver's seat. Ben Truby crushed a two-run hoimer to left field in the fifth inning, while Kammer finished the scoring with an RBI groundout in the eighth.

- Cashton Jones pitched another complete game in the victory, constantly keeping the Stars from home plate. He struck out five and walked two in nine innings of work.

- Kelley hit 3-for-4 with a home run. Prindle swung 2-for-2 with two runs and two walks.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Truby's home run in game two was his first as an Eagle.

- Jones has now pitched back-to-back complete games. Four of the last five games for Edgewood University have had a pitcher go the distance.
