VERONA, Wis. – On senior day at Ceniti Field, senior Kristen Salvatore uncorked her fourth home run of the year as the Edgewood College softball team topped MSOE 3-0 behind a great pitching performance from Claire Blake. The Raider offense woke up in game two as they took the contest 8-4.

Salvatore got the Eagles (10-18, 7-9 NAC) on the board when she belted a home run into the wind down the left field line to lead off the second inning. Rachel Elliott followed with a single through the left side and later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 2-0 Eagles.

That was all the support Blake would need as she only faced four batters over the minimum and threw the first no-hitter of her career. In the contest, Blake struck out six Raiders while walking three on 97 pitches. It was the first no-hitter by an Edgewood College pitcher since Kristen Borre and Stephanie Meehan teamed up for a five-inning no-hitter over Crown College (Minn.) in the 2007 season opener.

Edgewood College tacked on an insurance run in the third inning as Karmen Dorshorst singled, then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. She later scored on a wild pitch to put the Eagles up 3-0.

From there on out it was a pitcher's duel as only three runners reached base over the final three and a half innings.

All but two of the Eagles' starters recorded a hit in the contest and Dorshorst led the way as she went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

The MSOE (13-11, 9-9 NAC) offense came to life early in game two as the leadoff batter, Kate Klaubauf started the game with a home run over the left field fence. The Raiders then tacked on another run in the first to take a 2-0 lead.

The Raiders extended their lead in the second inning when Klaubauf drilled another home run to left field. This time it was a three-run bomb and the Raiders took a 5-0 lead after two innings.

Edgewood College bounced back in the second inning when Elliott sparked a rally with a leadoff double to center field. Blake then drove her in with a double down the left field line to cut the deficit to four runs. However, the Eagles were not able to score any more runs as the next two batters struck out and the final batter grounded out.

MSOE continued to extend their lead in the third inning. After an out, the Raiders recorded three consecutive singles to load the bases. Klaubauf then drove in her fifth run of the day with another single and MSOE took a 6-1 lead. The Raiders tacked on two more runs before leaving the bases loaded to take a commanding seven run lead.

Pam Sommer sparked an Eagle rally in the fifth inning as she recorded a one-out bunt single. Emily Monson followed with a double and Dorshorst drove in Sommer with another bunt single. After Dorshorst stole second, Jessica Spitzer ripped a single up the middle and the Eagles cut the deficit to 8-4.

The Eagles could not spark another comeback as they fell to the Raiders by the score of 8-4.

The top three hitters in the Eagle line-up all recoded two hits apiece. Monson went 2-for-4 with a run scored, Dorshorst went 2-for-4 with a run scored and one run batted in and Spitzer went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

Edgewood College will next be in action tomorrow when the host Concordia University Chicago at Ceniti Park in Verona. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and Edgewood College will provide live stats and live video for the doubleheader. The links can be found on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
