ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team took to the road to face Rockford College on Saturday. The Eagles exploded for the second straight game, tallying four goals in the first six minutes en route to a 14-0 victory over the Regents to push their conference record back over .500.
Kristina Santaga got the Eagles (10-3, 5-3 NAC) on the board just 45 seconds in and
Elaine Gerry extended the lead in the third minute with her first of three goals in the contest. Gerry then tallied another goal a minute later before
Molly Haertle pushed the lead to four in the sixth minute.
In the 35th minute,
Erica Svjose netted her first of two goals in the game, and
Sophie Rodriguez scored the first goal of her career in the 43rd minute to extend the Eagle lead to 7-0.
The Eagles continued the onslaught in the second half, starting with Gerry's third goal in the 58th minute.
Lexie Schmitgen scored her second goal of the season in the 61st minute and
Moe Baemmert tallied a goal just a minute later to make the score 10-0 Eagles.
Hailey Boyle capped the scoring in the 86th minute with her first career goal to give the Eagles the 14-0 win.
In the contest, the Eagles outshot the Regents (0-10, 0-8 NAC) 36-0. Gerry led the Eagles with three goals while
Lorena Kempinen and Svjose tallied two goals apiece. Rodriquez and Boyle recorded a team-high two assists apiece.
Edgewood College will have a quick turnaround as they host St. Norbert College tomorrow at Breese Stevens Field. Kickoff for senior day is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Edgewood College will provide live video and live stats for the contest.
