MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team started a week in which they have three contests the best way possible, with a convincing win. The Eagles jumped ahead of Lakeland College early and didn't look back, topping the Muskies 6-1 on Tuesday night at Breese Stevens Field.

In just the fourth minute, Kristina Santaga ripped the Eagles' third shot of the game from point blank range, the shot was stopped by the Muskies' goalkeeper Ashley Sarbacker. However, Molly Haertle was there to tap in the rebound to get the Eagles (9-3, 4-3 NAC) on the board.

Edgewood College struck again only three minutes later with Clare Schumacher lobbing a shot from the top of the box into the upper part of the net for her first goal of the season. Santaga and Haertle tallied assists on the play.

Elaine Gerry scored her sixth goal of the season in the 16th minute when she converted on her second penalty kick of the year to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

Kristina Borts accounted for three of Lakeland's four shots in the first half. All three of her shots were on goal and she got the Muskies (3-10, 2-4 NAC) on the board in the 44th minute. She took a penalty kick and placed the shot into the lower right side to cut the deficit to two.

The Eagles rebound only three minutes into the second half when Haertle took a pass from Tami Oilschlager on the right side and ripped a shot that ricocheted off a defender and into the net to push the Eagles' lead back to three. In the 54th minute, Haertle netted a hat trick when she took a pass from Gerry on the left side and slid the ball past Sarbacker.

Mackenzie Klingert put the game out of reach in the 64th minute when she ripped a shot from the left side that went into the right side of the net to give the Eagles the 6-1 lead. Edgewood College did not allow a shot from that point on, taking the contest 6-1.

In the contest, Edgewood College outshot the Muskies 33-5 and only allowed one Muskie shot in the second half. Haertle led the Eagles with three goals and one assist with four of her six shots being on target. Kristi Frisch made two saves in the contest while Lakelands Sarbacker turned away 14 shots.

Edgewood College will take the road on Saturday when they travel to Rockford College. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
