MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's soccer team had gone over 150 minutes without scoring a goal against Marian University this season, but they found a way to beat the Sabres just in time. The Eagles scored twice in the second half to claim a 2-1 victory over Marian University in a Northern Athletics Conference Tournament first round match at Breese Stevens Field.

Marian University (9-8-1), who defeated the Eagles 2-0 on September 21, grabbed an early lead in the third minute of the game. Mariel Bartolutti served up a perfect corner kick and Danielle Donnermeyer used her height to head a shot past Eagle goalkeeper Kristi Frisch to her left. It was Donnermeyer's sixth goal of the season for the sixth-seeded Sabres.

The Eagles outshot Marian 8-4 in the first half, but Sabre goalkeeper Tiffany Erdman made two saves to keep the Eagles scoreless. It wasn't until the 63rd minute that Edgewood College finally broke through. Kristina Santaga picked up a loose ball in the deep corner and advanced it up the end line. She battled her way through a Sabre defender and played the ball off to Molly Haertle who scored low in the right corner of the net.

Edgewood College (15-4-1) continued their pressure, but didn't score again until Santaga netted the game-winner in the 77th minute. A Marian defender attempted to clear the ball near the top of the penalty area, but Clare Schumacher threw her body in front of the kick. The ball rebounded high into the air, drawing Erdman off her line. However, Santaga was in the right place, and with Erdman caught halfway between the ball and the goal, she lofted a soft volley over the keeper's head and into the net for the eventual game-winner.

The Eagle defense did a great job of keeping the Sabre attack away from Frisch, allowing just one shot on goal. Frisch earned her 13th win of the year.

Edgewood College advances to a semifinal match on Wednesday, November 3 at Dominican University in River Forest, Ill. The second-seeded Stars defeated Edgewood College 2-0 on October 2.
