MADISON, Wis. - In a key Northern Athletics Conference women's soccer match, the result came down to which team blinked first. Fortunately for Edgewood College, it was MSOE and the Raiders' defense that cracked, allowing Kelsey Beck to score the winning goal in a 1-0 Eagles' victory. The win pulled the Eagles into a fourth place tie in the NAC and closer to a potential home NAC Tournament match.

Each team had precious few quality scoring opportunities through much of the game, but the Eagles got the one they needed in the 70th minute. Kristina Santaga found space near the right sideline and lofted a pass into the left side of the box for Beck. Beck side-stepped one defender, but it appeared a second Raider defender was about to clear the ball away. However, Beck kept her feet long enough to poke a shot from eight yards out past MSOE goalkeeper Emma Lumpe. For Beck, it was her third goal of the year and it gave the Eagles their fourth straight conference victory.

MSOE entered the match as the highest scoring team in the conference, but the Edgewood College (12-4-1, 7-3 NAC) defense and goalkeeper Kristi Frisch limited the Raiders' chances most of the night. Frisch ended up with two saves for her seventh shutout of the season. Brittany Drewiske, Rosie Beck, Emily Daniels and Brianna Franken were the core of the defense that held the Raiders to just eight shots for the game.

With two matches remaining, Edgewood College needs just one win to clinch a postseason berth and a win and a tie to clinch a home game in the first round of the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. The Eagles will take their first shot on Saturday morning when they host Alverno College at 11:00 a.m. Edgewood College will close the regular season on October 28 against Maranatha Baptist.
