MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team was hoping some of that good Breese Stevens Field karma would rub off in their season opener against Augustana College. However, three second half goals by the Vikings sent the Eagles to their first defeat in their last 17 games at the venerable stadium, by a score of 3-0.

The Eagles (0-1) kept pace with the Vikings early, generating four first half shots and forcing Augustana goalkeeper Kayla Radloff to make two saves. However, the Vikings (1-0) began to seize control late in the first half and eventually broke through 15 minutes into the second half.

Erin Coulson picked up a loose ball behind Eagle goalkeeper Ilana Bar-av and slid it into the corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. Just 67 seconds later, Jenna Doyle fired a deadly accurate shot from the right corner of the box that cleared Bar-av's reach and found the back of the net.

Edgewood College tried to get on the attack as Janna Yost put another shot on the Viking net in the 71st minute, but by that point Augustana had tilted the field in their favor. The Vikings posted their final goal when Sierra Makeever's shot squirted away from Eagle substitute goalkeeper Kristi Frisch and Holly Timm put it away with less than nine minutes remaining.

Bar-av made three saves and Frisch four in the effort. Clare Schumacher recorded two shot attempts as the Eagles were outshot 23-5. It was the first loss for the Eagles at Breese Stevens Field since a 1-0 overtime loss to Concordia Wisconsin on October 31, 2006, an unbeaten streak of 16 straight games.

Edgewood College will return to action on Saturday when they travel north to face Ripon College at Prairie Field.
