STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Edgewood College softball team earned its first-ever win over UW-Stevens Point in its 13th meeting with a 4-2 victory in game one, but settled for the split when the Pointers took game two 13-2 at McCarty Memorial Field in Stevens Point. The Eagles' record moves to 11-15 overall.

For the second game in a row, the Eagles got on the board early. Rachel Elliott gave her team the first lead with a 2-RBI bases load single, driving in Jamie Kurt and Stephanie Schafer to go up 2-0 on the Pointers. Elliott finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. In the third inning, Colleen Joyce got what turned out to be the game-winning hit with her sixth home run of the season.

After Pointer runs in each the third and fourth innings to make the score 3-2, the Eagles scored a big insurance run of their own in the sixth to give pitcher Jenna Ryan a little breathing room. Ryan threw all seven innings and allowed two runs (1 earned) on three hits while striking out four to earn her seventh win of the season.

In game two the Pointer bats really came to life and in the form of four long balls. UW-Stevens Point scored in each they stepped to the plate with three runs in the first, four in the second, five in the third and one in the fourth. Brittany Zelenka hit two bombs, her only two hits of the game amounting to six RBI for the Pointers. The game of five innings lasted just one minute past an hour.

The Eagles managed just four hits and scored two runs, one off the bat of senior Kurt, her sixth of the season to tie Joyce for the team lead. Edgewood College will meet another WIAC school, UW-Platteville, in the final regular season home game of the year on April 28.

The next time the Eagles are in action will be Saturday, April 18 at home against Alverno College. First pitch is slated for noon at Ceniti Park in Verona.
