MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team's hopes of winning a school record 13th straight home game fell apart thanks to a hot shooting Coe College squad. The Kohawks buried 10 three-pointers and shot 48.4 percent in the first half on their way to a 71-55 victory over Edgewood College.
The Kohawks broke free from an early 6-6 tie with a 17-6 run over the middle nine minutes of the first half. The Eagles cut the lead back to single digits on jump shots by Amber Fiene and Danielle Dixon, but back-to-back-to-back three point baskets by Coe's Leslie Ware pushed the Kohawks advantage back to 34-16 with 3:23 left to play in the first half. Ware hit five three-pointers for the game, all in the first half, and finished with a game-high 17 points.
Edgewood College (4-6) played with renewed energy in the first part of the second half, opening the period with a 15-8 run to cut the lead to 10 at 47-37. Six different Eagles scored the seven field goals during that run, led by Amber Hemp with two buckets and Shae Beckwith with a three-point basket.
After Coe College (5-5) pushed their lead back to 16, Dixon scored a pair of buckets and Beckwith made two free throws for a 57-47 deficit. However, Sarah Anciaux would make a three-point basket on the next possession, and the Eagles never came closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
Hemp led the team with 14 points on 6-for-14 shooting. Dixon came off the bench to score 10 points. Beckwith added nine points, while Susan Paskey scored eight points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds. The Eagles shot just 34.3 percent from the field compared to Coe College's 44.6 percent rate.
