Box Score

ELMHURST, Ill. – A team may not always shoot well, but winning on one of these bad shooting nights is always good. Edgewood College shot only 32.6 percent from the field on Sunday but they still managed to come away with a 55-43 victory over Benedictine University.

In the first half, Edgewood College (4-4, 4-1 NAC) got off to a quick start as Amber Hemp drilled a three-point basket to give the Eagles the early lead. After a Benedictine basket, Brianna Droessler tallied a layup, and Shae Beckwith made a three-point shot to give the Edgewood College a 10-2 lead with 17:09 left.

Then Edgewood College went ice cold from the field as they did not make a field goal for just over nine minutes.  Susan Paskey made layup to end the drought, and she also made a free throw during that stretch. While Edgewood College was cold, Benedictine (3-6, 1-4 NAC) cut the led to 14-12 with just 6:25 to play. Edgewood College closed the half on a 10-0 run to take a 24-12 lead into the break.

To open the second half, Edgewood College opened up a 17 point lead over the first six minutes by going on a 9-4 run to start the frame. However, Benedictine then went on a 10-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to nine at 33-24 with 10:27 left.

Edgewood College would again extend their lead to 17, at 42-25 before Benedictine came back again. With just 1:54 left on the clock, Benedictine cut the lead to five before Edgewood College scored eight of the final nine points. Down the stretch, Edgewood College made their final six free throws to seal the victory.

Beckwith led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points while Paskey was not far behind with nine points, to go along with nine rebounds. Hannah Schultz grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds in the victory.

Edgewood College will have next week off before traveling to play UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday December, 22. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m
