MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team bounced back with a win after losing to UW-Stevens Point in the last match. The Eagles used two first half goals to top Wisconsin Lutheran College 2-0 on Senior Day.
Kelsey Beck got the Eagles (9-4-1, 6-1-1 NAC) when she picked up a loose ball in front of the Warriors (4-12, 2-8 NAC) net and scored from five yards out. She put her shot into the lower left corner of the net to beat Katie Sloan, the Warriors goalkeeper in the 17th minute. Just nine minutes later, Abby Moder tacked on an insurance goal. She took a nice lead pass from Tammi Hagensick and netted it for her team leading 16th goal of the season.
Edgewood College outshot the Warriors 28-2 on the day and 17-2 in the first frame. Wisconsin Lutheran's best scoring chance came in the fourth minute when Ilana Bar-av turned away a shot by Meta Kolander for her only save of the day.
The Eagles had a chance to add a third goal in the 51st minute as Beck sent a cross to Moder, whose header went just high as it hit the crossbar. Clare Schumacher collected the rebound and ripped a quick shot that was saved by Sloan to keep the deficit at two.
The rest of the second half was played to a stalemate as Edgewood College played good defense and did not allow another Warrior shot.
The Eagles will next be in action on Tuesday when they travel to Milwaukee to face MSOE. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
