MADISON, Wis. – The Eagle women shot nearly 70 percent in the second half and Megan Scheele scored 29 points as host Edgewood College defeated Alverno College 78-63 in a Northern Athletics Conference matchup at the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Monday night.

The Eagles (8-5, 6-1 NAC) shot 69.6 percent (16-of-23) and outscored the Inferno 45-32 in the second half en route to their sixth straight conference win and fourth straight victory overall. Scheele needs only 15 points to tie the all-time school record of 1,854 points, currently held by Deb Boomsma ('91). She can surpass the mark this Wednesday when the Eagles host Rockford College.

Alverno (6-8, 3-6 NAC) kept the score close in the first half shooting 51.7 percent on 15-of-29 from the field. The Inferno were ready to take a 1-point lead into halftime after Gabby Allen hit two of her team-high 22 points with 25 seconds left in the first half, but Shae Beckwith didn't let that happen. Scheele kicked the ball out to the right wing after getting several Inferno to converge in the lane and it left Beckwith with a wide open 3-pointer that she hit with less than five seconds to go to give the Eagles a 33-31 lead at the break.

Nearing the midway point in the second half the Eagles had worn down Alverno's defense and broke the game wide open. Edgewood College completed a 16-5 run after a Scheele jumper which gave her two of her 21 second half points. The senior finished the game 10-of-16 from the field and 9-of-9 from the free throw line to go with six rebounds, a block, and two steals in 40 minutes of action.

Edgewood College would extend the lead to as many as 17 points late in the second half and finished the game 29-of-53 (54.7 percent) from the field, recording assists on 24 of its makes. It marks the fourth straight game that the Eagles have surpassed the 50 percent shooting mark, in fact, their output on Monday night was their highest shooting percentage of the season and highest since Dec. 9, 2006 when they went 31-of-55 (56.4 percent) from the field in a 74-28 win, also over Alverno.

They out-rebounded the Inferno 32-26 and held the opponent's bench scoreless while scoring 19 of its own. Susan Paskey led the Eagles off the bench with 13 points on 5-of-6 from the field in 17 minutes. Amber Hemp had four assists in each half to turn in a game-high eight assists to go with her three points on the night. Ashley Averkamp chipped in 12 points and five rebounds to go with two blocks and steal as well.

The Eagles will host Rockford College on Wednesday at the Todd Wehr Edgedome at 7:00 p.m.
