MADISON, Wis. – Three freshmen accounted for seven goals as the Eagles ran away with their third win of the season in a 7-1 whitewash of Ripon College at Breese Stevens Field Friday night.
Elaine Gerry and Caitlin Moore stole the show when each recorded a hat trick in the Eagle's rout of the Red Hawks. Gerry set the tone early by scoring within the first three minutes after sneaking one by Ripon's keeper following a nice lead pass from Angela Colletti. She would add another one less than ten minutes later after a sweet cross from Tammi Hagensick. Her fourth goal of the season and third goal of the match came early in the second half off another assist from Hagensick.
At halftime with the score 2-1, the Eagles (3-0) looked to create some separation against a team they clearly outplayed in the first half. It turned out to be Moore who provided just the spark they were looking for. The freshman forward began the second half onslaught in the first 30 seconds after she beat Ripon's (1-3) keeper and netted a 15-yard strike to make the lead a little more comfortable.
Moore would then deliver a centering pass to give Kelsey Beck her first career goal to break the game open at 5-1. If it seemed as if Moore hadn't quite done enough already, she added, well… more. The native of New Berlin chipped in the final two tallies in the Eagles' 7-1 win. She finished with seven points on the evening, a career night to say the least.
Edgewood College outshot Ripon 38-7 and won the corner kick battle 8-3 en route to the dominating win. Eight different Eagles have scored on the young season and they've outscored their opponents by a combined 14-2.
UW-Stevens Point awaits undefeated Edgewood College as both squads will go to battle at the Soccer Bowl in Stevens Point, Wis. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
